This month Harry Charles explores the delightful, rural village of Sarratt, Hertfordshire. Settled within sprawling countryside, but only 30 miles of London Sarratt may be the village for you.
This beautiful, hidden gem of a village sits in-between Croxley and Bovingdon. It has over 10 different rambling walks, plenty of pubs and forty-three local clubs to join, including the Horticultural Society, the U3A, the Women’s Institute plus a football and rugby club.
Sarratt is a fantastic location for families with young children. With the highly regarded Sarratt C of E School situated on the Green, as well as Prep School York House School on Sarratt Road, an excellent Private School for children ages 3 – 14 and St Clement Danes Secondary School, there is no shortage of educational facilities right on your doorstep.
There are also plenty of family activities within Sarratt. Chenies Manor: the stunning, 17th century, historical home is set within colourful grounds filled with flowers and its very own maze! Sarratt village also provides its own thriving village hall, community garden and village run Post Office. Sarratt also has its own cricket, tennis and bowling club together with a renovated kids play ground.
Few places can rival Sarratt for its natural beauty. It offers numerous beautiful walks along the river chess, as well as plenty of woodland and farmland strolls. As already mentioned, there are numerous pubs, two on Sarratt Green alone! These include “The Cricketers” and “The Boot.” Both are immensely popular pubs that are situated perfectly to be tied in with your weekend walk.
You’ll be joining Hollywood Elite when you visit Sarratt, with films such as Three Weddings and a Funeral, Pudsey and Miss Marple films. With Bovingdon Film Studios close by who never know who you’ll meet on the common.
Sarratt boosts many equestrian stables from Rosehall Farm to Coltspring. So, it’s common to see many horse riders in the area.
